The Return of the Roast?

Crispy, crunchy crackling
A Sunday roast is one of life's simple pleasures. Roasted meat, vegetables, lashings of gravy – you can't beat it. Well eating a Sunday roast is a simple pleasure. Washing all the pots and pans afterwards – not so much. So let us take the labour intensity out of your Sunday dinner!

We're be dishing up an Atlas speciality this Sunday (29th June), our famous Atlas Pig Roast.

The chefs will start roasting the pig from 11am and then Sunday dinner is served from 6pm. And, if the hog roast proves to be a hit again we'll look at bringing it back for the rest of Winter. Your Sunday dinners could be sorted 'til September!

Roast pork and crackling with roasted potatoes and vegetables,
home-made apple sauce and cider gravy | $18.50

We've still got Zeffer Cider on tap as an accompaniment or a Tuatara Helles would go down a treat too. If you're not keen on meat we'll still be serving up the regular evening menu alongside the roast – so there's dinner options for everyone.

Come along and see us this Sunday. You do the dining, we'll do the dishes!

Emerson's Brewer's Reserve 2013

Oreti Red
We've got Emersons' red IPA, Oreti Red on tap for a limited time only.

It's got traditional, hoppy floral notes of an IPA teamed with a "fat", rich malt base. Perfect for this time of year.

The Emerson's crew enjoy this ale with some cheese and many people rate IPAs with Thai food. So if you are keen to try the Oreti Red and you are also feeling peckish you can try teaming it with the following Atlas tapas suggestions.

– Blue cheese croquette, roasted pears and mulled wine – $9.5

– Duck in coconut curry with crisp breads – $8.5

And it seems that if you enjoy Bookbinder, the Oreti Red could also be for you. Perusing the web earlier we stumbled as across a blog where the Oreti Red was described by one drinker as "Emerson's Bookbinder...with b8lls!". So there you have it.

Emerson's Brewers Reserve Oreti Red | 6% | $9 pint / $6 1/2

Until next time!

A Kiwi (with a little Aussie) craft-beer compilation
Lots is on tap!

If you haven't been in to Atlas since the Queen's Birthday then you won't have seen our shiny new taps, we've now got a total of 10 different beers on the lines.

We'll continue to pour our regular favourites but we are super excited that we can now bring you more guest beers from different NZ brewers. Hoorah!

What the Helles?!

A Helles (pronounced "hell-us") is a classic, German larger. It's a full-bodied brew with malty accents and a dry finish.   Accordingly to the German Beer Institute website a Helles is

"arguably the evolutionary epitome of Germany's more than three-thousand-year-old brewing tradition. In terms of sheer brewing artistry, it caps everything that has gone before it, and nothing that has followed it has ever equalled it."

Wow!

Well, here at Atlas we have a Helles on tap. Namely the Tuatara Helles brewed right here in NZ, as opposed to Bavaria, and hopped with Pacific Jade hops for bitterness and Wai-iti for flavour.

You're not going to find the full-on aromatics of a Pilsner in a Helles. It's just a smooth, tasty, well-rounded larger.

Tuatara describe their Helles as "Crisp, dry, with a little citrus but not too showy". Sounds good, doesn't it? Perfect after a hard day's work (or skiing) we reckon.

Tuatara Helles | 5% | $9 per pint

Food match: Traditionally, Preztels and Bratwerst! But also bacon and eggs. Maybe team half a Helles with an Atlas Big Breakfast for a late, weekend brunch?

We also recommend it with:
– Salt and pepper squid with citrus aioli – $8
– Atlas fries and aioli – $6

Warm Up this Winter! Mulled Wine is Back.
